Psychotherapy for individuals navigating mental health challenges, addiction, and life transitions. Goal-oriented, skilled and compassionate therapy, meaningful change.
My Approach
My approach is trauma-informed and psychodynamic at its foundation: the understanding that many of the patterns people struggle with have origins in earlier relational experiences. Making those connections conscious is what makes change durable rather than temporary.
I intentionally keep my caseload limited. Thoughtfully paced sessions, availability between appointments, as needed, and care that feels personal, because it is.
The therapeutic relationship itself is the instrument of change — not a checklist of techniques applied in sequence.
Many patterns people struggle with have roots in earlier experiences. I work with the whole history, not just present symptoms.
Lasting change comes from genuine self-knowledge. The goal is understanding, not just symptom management.

Clinical Modalities
These are the primary interventions I integrate into treatment — applied when clinically appropriate, not as a default protocol.
First Session
Your first session is a conversation, not a test. I’ll ask about what brought you here, your history, and what you hope to get from treatment.

From psychotherapy to trusted referrals, I offer a range of services built on clinical expertise and an intentionally limited caseload — so every client gets the attention they deserve.

Meet Jeffrey Farber
Jeffrey’s path to psychotherapy started in the Marine Corps. After serving as a combat veteran, he earned his MSW summa cum laude from USC and built his clinical career in some of the Bay Area’s most demanding settings — including Swords to Plowshares, a nationally recognized veterans service organization, and Alta Mira Recovery Center, where he served as Associate Clinical Director.
Those experiences taught him what works and what doesn’t. High-volume practices that rush through sessions don’t work. Disconnected providers who never talk to each other don’t work. Cookie-cutter treatment plans don’t work.
Channel is the practice he built to do it differently: an intentionally small caseload, unhurried sessions, and the kind of clinical depth that comes from fifteen years of working with complex trauma, addiction, and the full spectrum of mood disorders.
He specializes in PTSD, clinical depression, generalized anxiety, and co-occurring substance use disorders. His approach is trauma-informed, psychodynamic, and pragmatic — grounded in evidence and shaped by genuine human connection.

In My Own Words

“I started Channel because I wanted to practice the way I believe therapy should be done — unhurried, personal, and grounded in genuine understanding. After years in residential treatment and clinical leadership, I knew the kind of care that actually works. Channel is my chance to deliver it, one client at a time.”
“I keep my caseload intentionally small. Every session is unhurried. Every referral is considered. You get my full attention — not a rotating door of providers or a fifteen-minute check-in. This is care grounded in rigorous clinical training and real human connection.”
Common Questions
My approach is trauma-informed and psychodynamic at its foundation — the understanding that many patterns people struggle with have roots in earlier experiences. Within that framework, I integrate evidence-based interventions including CBT, CPT, DBT, EMDR, and MI as clinically appropriate. The goal is genuine self-knowledge, not just symptom management.
Channel Psychotherapy is an out-of-network private practice. I provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Many PPO plans offer partial coverage for out-of-network providers.
In-person sessions are held at my Sausalito office at One Harbor Drive. Home visits are available within Marin County and San Francisco. Secure video sessions are also available for clients physically located in California at the time of session.
Schedule a free initial consultation through the contact page. The initial conversation is an opportunity to discuss your needs, ask questions, and determine whether this is the right fit.
I specialize in PTSD, clinical depression, generalized anxiety, substance use disorders, life transitions, and grief. When your needs extend beyond individual therapy, I connect you with trusted specialists and treatment centers I know personally.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients begin with weekly sessions. As treatment progresses and goals are met, frequency may shift to biweekly or as-needed. The pace is determined collaboratively.
