CPT

Making sense of what happened.

A trauma-focused therapy that helps people understand and reframe how a traumatic experience changed the way they see themselves and the world.

What it is

Cognitive Processing Therapy

After a traumatic experience, it is common to develop beliefs that feel protective but actually keep you stuck. You might believe the world is entirely unsafe, that you should have prevented what happened, or that you are fundamentally broken because of it.

Cognitive Processing Therapy is designed specifically for people working through trauma. It helps you examine those beliefs, understand where they came from, and develop a more balanced perspective without minimizing what you went through.

When it helps

Common reasons people seek CPT.

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Trauma-related guilt, shame, or self-blame
  • Difficulty trusting others after a traumatic experience
  • Persistent feelings of unsafety or hypervigilance
  • Emotional numbness or avoidance of trauma-related reminders

My approach

How I use CPT in practice.

I use CPT with clients whose trauma has fundamentally changed how they see themselves or the world around them. The work is collaborative and paced to what you can tolerate. We identify the beliefs that are keeping you stuck, trace them back to their origins, and work toward a perspective that honors your experience without being defined by it.
