Individual psychotherapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and unprocessed grief.
Therapy is important. It enables us to explore our past, current, and future selves within a safe, non-judgmental space. Life is complicated, and nobody makes it into adulthood without scars. If you are grappling with loss, grief, transitional issues, or mood disturbances like depression, anxiety, or chronic stress, you’ve come to the right place.
Jeffrey’s therapeutic approach is collaborative and supportive. Together, you will create a personalized treatment plan and use evidence-based interventions aimed at meeting or exceeding your goals.
“Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know.”
— Pema Chödrön
Overview
Individual therapy is a one-on-one mental health treatment where you meet with Jeffrey to discuss your personal challenges, improve your self-awareness, develop coping skills, and explore personal growth in a safe space.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, addiction, or other personal concerns, Jeffrey can help you manage your emotions, thoughts, and life’s stressors in a way that best suits you and your needs.
During your sessions, together, you will determine the best approach for your unique situation.
Conditions & Concerns
Individual therapy can address a wide range of mental health conditions and life challenges. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship issues, grief, stress, or low self-esteem, therapy can help you feel less alone and develop a better handle on your condition and your life.
Jeffrey specializes in PTSD, clinical depression, generalized anxiety, and co-occurring substance use disorders. During your initial appointment, he will discuss your concerns and determine the best path forward.
Benefits
Therapy with Jeffrey is confidential. The information you share is protected by HIPAA and by California’s strong therapist-patient privilege. There are certain legally mandated exceptions — including situations involving imminent risk of harm, suspected abuse of a child or dependent adult, or a court order — which Jeffrey will explain in detail at intake. The written informed consent you sign at the start of treatment describes both the protections and the exceptions.
Beyond confidentiality, you will develop a deeper understanding of yourself, build healthy coping strategies, and notice an increase in your confidence. Jeffrey customizes the therapeutic approach based on your specific struggles and goals, drawing from CBT, CPT, DBT, EMDR, MI, and psychodynamic therapy as clinically appropriate.
What to Expect
For clients who prefer remote care, virtual therapy sessions offer the same level of professional guidance and support from the comfort of your home. Virtual therapy sessions are available to clients physically located in California at the time of session. Jeffrey is licensed in California only and cannot provide psychotherapy to clients located in other states except where a temporary practice exception applies under that state’s law.
Sessions are held at my Sausalito office. For clients who prefer to receive care in their own environment, home visits are available within Marin County and San Francisco.
My Approach
Jeffrey’s approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy: the understanding that many of the patterns people struggle with have origins in earlier relational experiences. Making those connections conscious is what makes change durable rather than temporary.
This foundation is integrated with evidence-based interventions including CBT, CPT, DBT, EMDR, MI, and psychodynamic therapy. These tools are applied when clinically appropriate, not as a default protocol.
The goal is not to feel good temporarily. It is to understand yourself well enough that the challenges you face become navigable rather than overwhelming.
Why Jeffrey
If during the course of treatment it becomes clear that psychiatric medication or neuropsychological testing might support your progress, Jeffrey makes a referral to an independent specialist he knows and trusts. Your clinical context is shared (with your written consent) so the new provider does not have to start from scratch. Referred providers are independent of this practice.
