MI

Finding your own reasons to change.

A collaborative conversational approach that strengthens your own motivation and commitment to change.

What it is

Motivational Interviewing

Change is hard, and most people who walk into a therapist’s office already know what they want to change. The problem is usually not a lack of information — it is ambivalence. Part of you wants to move forward, and part of you has good reasons for staying where you are.

Motivational Interviewing is a way of having a conversation that respects that ambivalence rather than arguing against it. Instead of telling you what to do, I help you explore your own values, goals, and reasons for change. The motivation that comes from within is the only kind that lasts.

When it helps

Common reasons people seek MI.

  • Substance use and addiction recovery
  • Difficulty committing to behavior changes you know would help
  • Ambivalence about treatment or life decisions
  • Health-related behavior changes
  • Situations where you feel stuck between wanting to change and resisting it

My approach

How I use MI in practice.

Motivational Interviewing is woven into almost everything I do. It is less a technique I apply and more a stance I take: curious, non-judgmental, and genuinely interested in what matters to you. It is especially central in my addiction and recovery work, where the gap between wanting to change and actually changing can feel enormous. I meet you where you are and help you build your own bridge forward.
