Consultations & Referrals

The right care, even when it's not mine.

When your needs extend beyond what individual therapy can address, Jeffrey connects you with providers and treatment centers he trusts personally.

Jeffrey provides psychotherapy services only. He does not provide psychiatric services, prescribe medications, or administer or interpret neuropsychological testing. When those services would benefit your care, he refers you to an independent provider with the specialty needed. Referred providers are independent practitioners. They are not employees, partners, or affiliates of Channel Psychotherapy, and have no financial relationship with the practice. You are free to select any qualified provider; providers Jeffrey refers you to are suggestions based on his professional knowledge of their work, not requirements.

Not every challenge is best addressed through outpatient therapy alone. Sometimes the right path forward involves a residential treatment program, a psychiatric evaluation, neuropsychological testing, or a specialist whose expertise complements the therapeutic work.

Jeffrey has spent years building relationships with treatment centers, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, and other clinicians across the Bay Area and beyond. When a referral is warranted, it is not a hand-off — it is a warm introduction to someone Jeffrey knows and trusts, with your clinical context shared (with your consent) so you never have to start from scratch.

Overview

What does this look like?

A consultation begins with an honest conversation about what you need and whether Jeffrey is the right person to provide it. If your situation calls for something beyond his scope — psychiatric medication, neuropsychological assessment, residential treatment, or a different clinical specialty — he will tell you directly.

From there, Jeffrey makes a personal introduction to the right provider or program. With your written consent, Jeffrey can communicate with referred providers to share clinical context and support continuity of care. This is a coordination function — not a separate billable service or a formal care-coordination role.

Conditions & Concerns

When a referral might make sense.

You may benefit from a referral if you are experiencing symptoms that suggest a need for psychiatric medication, if diagnostic clarity would improve your treatment plan, if a higher level of care like residential treatment is appropriate, or if a specialized provider would better serve a particular aspect of your situation.

Jeffrey will never refer you out unnecessarily. A referral happens when it genuinely serves your care — not to fill a slot or meet a quota.

Benefits

Why personal connections matter.

A referral from someone who knows both you and the provider is fundamentally different from a name on a list. Jeffrey has worked alongside many of the clinicians and programs he recommends. He knows their strengths, their style, and whether they are likely to be a good fit for your specific situation.

This network was built over fifteen years of clinical work across residential treatment, veterans’ services, and private practice. It is one of the most valuable things Jeffrey offers beyond the therapy itself.

What to Expect

How the process works.

Clinical Assessment

Jeffrey evaluates whether a referral would benefit your treatment. This may come up during an existing therapeutic relationship or during an initial consultation.

Personal Introduction

Jeffrey connects you directly with the provider or program — not a generic referral list, but a warm introduction with clinical context shared with your permission.

Coordinated Follow-Through

With your written consent, Jeffrey can communicate with the referred provider to share clinical context and support continuity of care. This is a coordination function, not a separate billable service.

My Approach

Honest guidance, not a sales pitch.

Jeffrey’s referral philosophy is simple: if he is the right person to help you, he will. If someone else would serve you better, he will say so and make the introduction personally.

This is not a revenue-sharing arrangement or a referral network in the commercial sense. It is a clinician using his professional relationships to get you the best possible care.

Why Jeffrey

A network built on trust.

Jeffrey’s referral network spans psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, residential treatment centers, and specialized clinicians across the Bay Area and nationally. These are providers he has worked with directly — at Alta Mira, through Swords to Plowshares, and in private practice. When he recommends someone, it is because he has seen their work firsthand.

FAQs

Common questions about consultations & referrals.

Not unless that is what makes clinical sense. In most cases, Jeffrey continues as your primary therapist while coordinating with the referred provider. A referral supplements your care — it does not replace it.

If you are already a client, referral guidance is part of your ongoing care. If you are reaching out specifically for a consultation about where to get help, that is a conversation Jeffrey is happy to have during the free initial consultation call. If a more substantive consultation is warranted, that may be scheduled as a paid initial session.

Psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, residential treatment programs, addiction specialists, and other licensed clinicians. The network is built on personal professional relationships, not directories.

Yes. Jeffrey has professional connections with treatment centers and clinicians nationally, particularly in the addiction and recovery space.

Based on your specific clinical needs, the provider’s specialty and style, and whether Jeffrey believes they will be a good fit for you personally. He will explain his reasoning and you always have the final say.
