Touching the Dragon
James Hatch & Christian D'Andrea
James Hatch spent twenty-five years as a Navy SEAL, including the mission to rescue Bowe Bergdahl. After retiring, his life unraveled: addiction, a suicide attempt, and an arrest. This book is the account of his fall and the long process of finding a way back. It is written plainly, without self-pity, and with the kind of honesty that only comes from someone who has stopped protecting his own story.
Why I recommend this one
I recommend this to veterans and to anyone who loves a veteran. Hatch writes about the gap between who you were trained to be and who you become after the mission ends. That gap is where most of my military clients live. Reading it may help you understand what the people around you are carrying.
