Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
Lori Gottlieb
Lori Gottlieb is a therapist whose own life falls apart, sending her into therapy with a colleague while she continues to see her own patients. The book braids her clients' stories with her own, and the result is a portrait of what therapy actually looks like from both sides of the room. It's funny, honest, and deeply unguarded — a rare thing in writing about clinical work.
Why I recommend this one
I recommend this to anyone who's curious about what therapy is or who's been on the fence about starting. Gottlieb captures the texture of the work — the way change sneaks up on you, the way the relationship itself becomes the medicine — without ever making it sound mystical. It's also genuinely good company.
